Rocco Mediate PGA's Lovable Loser

Last year was a very memorable to Rocco Mediate and the fans of the US Open. Rocco finished as the runner up at last years US Open. Mediate was playing in the pro-am for the FBR Open earlier this year, and when his group arrived at the final hole he had about a 12-foot putt for birdie. The crowd exploded with cheers after making that putt. There was this one heckler waiting...

“Hey Roc!” the guy belted. “If you'd have made a couple more of those at the Open, you would have won the (expletive) thing!”

Mediate's popularity hasn't dropped off. In the 21 tournaments he's played since the Open, the 46-year-old has been consistently mediocre. He has made 19 cuts, but has posted only two top-20s and hasn't come close to sniffing his first victory since 2002. Slowed by arthroscopic knee surgery in February, he's only 142nd on the money list.
