LPGA Coming to San Diego, Torrey Pines in September

On September 16 - 20 the LPGA will be hosting the Samsung World Championship at Torrey Pines South Course (6,700 yards, par 72). It has been 15 years since an LPGA tournment has been in San Diego. With last years historical US Open the city has been getting a widespread international exposure.

"On behalf of the City of San Diego, we look forward to welcoming the LPGA Tour with the 2009 Samsung World Championship at Torrey Pines," said Jon Maddern, Deputy Director/Golf Operations Division for the City of San Diego, owners of Torrey Pines Golf Courses. "This magnificent facility has witnessed many spectacular golf moments over the years, and we know that the best in women's golf will create more history here in September."

The LPGA and IMG are hoping that the absence of the tour for 15 years has made San Diego hungrier for the women's game, which is vastly different and, arguably, far more watchable from the last time it was here in 1993.

The LPGA players get to test their skills on a layout as demanding and beautiful as most they play.
